I've heard of you and read of you
I know some who live in the dread of you
I was taught to shiver at the thought of you
You're the debt that all men pay
You're the night in every man's day
At least that’s the little I’ve heard them say
Mother questions you as if you were real
Calls you like those she can see and feel
I still can't understand how the invisible can kill
I have a million questions for you
I have to believe you're real too
My mum never says things that aren't true
They told me you took my father away
Yet there he was, on the bed he lay
Only, he was no longer happy and gay
Where did you take my dad?
"Heaven" is the only response I've had
But how can you go to Heaven since you're so bad?
I had a cousin who you also took at birth
My aunt kept calling to you, "o death, no death"
Why do you terrorize the Earth?
They said you caused my late friend's ulcer
And then you gave my daddy cancer
Why would you do that? Please answer
O death, why do you plague us so? Why won’t you let us know?
So we say goodbye before our daddies go?
