Naaman, mighty, valiant and great,
Commanding the army of the Syrian state,
Pompous in speech, carriage and gait,
Much of his story is told till date.
How he contracted leprosy,
Heard of Elisha's gift of prophecy,
Showed his initial obstinacy,
And was shown a fraction of God's potency.
Yes, much of his story is known,
But none of the glory his own,
A truth that the Bible has shown:
Lowly servants led him to God's Throne.
For Elisha was revealed to him by a maidservant,
And Elisha welcomed him not, but by a servant.
And when in pride he became errant,
Wisdom came in the voice of a bondservant.
These servants were heroes, but remain unsung,
For some glories never go where they belong,
And praises are often sung in the wrong,
On cowards, war medals are sometimes strung.
But can we tell of Naaman alone?
What's a tour without the cicerone?
They are nameless but never outshone,
Syria's mighty general isn’t a standalone.
