When we're old, and grey with dim eyes
We'd get to see life more clearly;
More clearly than we did as young men,
With bright eyes lidded with untamed passions,
When the more we saw, the less we really knew.
When we're old and grey with dim eyes,
We'd have learned the invaluable lesson
That the eyes themselves don't do the seeing
They are merely windows
Through which our sharpsighted souls look.
